Stage Fright: The Fear That Follows Power
Jul 03, 2025You’re smart.
You’ve built something real: a business, a career, a body of work that matters.
You know your voice is part of that legacy.
So why does it vanish when the spotlight hits?
You’ve spoken in meetings, on Zooms, maybe even on a stage or many.
And still
when it’s time to perform the spotlight on just you
your throat tightens.
Your brain fogs.
Your presence evaporates.
Not always.
Just when it matters most.
You call it nerves.
Or say “I’m just not a speaker.”
But deep down, you know: this is costing you.
It’s dangerous to your voice, your brand, your energy, your mission.
Because when your voice disappears,
so does your leadership.
❖ What Stage Fright Actually Is (And Isn’t)
It’s not fear of speaking.
It’s fear of being seen - fully, messily, magnificently.
It’s the terror that your insides won’t match your outsides.
That you’ll be too much, or not enough.
That you'll crumble, or ramble, or fail to impress and you’ll never recover.
That the imposter syndrome is not a syndrome but a fact.
And no, it doesn’t always look like panic.
It looks like:
- Rewriting slides until 1:00 a.m.
- Opting for a “fireside chat” instead of a keynote
- Getting through the talk… but feeling hollow after
- Speaking perfectly and still not feeling landed
It looks like success with a silencer on.
❖ The Shame Echo
Stage fright isn’t weakness, it’s a freeze state wrapped in professionalism.
It’s what happens when a brilliant, capable human
carries a moment of being ridiculed, silenced, shamed
and that moment lives on in their body.
So even now,
years later, degrees later, titles later
the nervous system still says:
Don’t. Too dangerous. Stay small. Stay safe.
And here’s what I’ve come to understand:
Everyone’s scared of being seen
because being seen is intimacy.
It’s exposure. It’s: “Here I am. What now?”
We brace for the sting.
We expect the silence, the judgment, the disconnect.
And yet:
being seen fully and safely is also what makes us fall in love with ourselves again.
That’s the work.
Not just to be visible
but to be received and stay intact.
That’s possible.
And if you’ve never known it, that’s not your fault.
But it is your turning point.
❖ Most Advice is Garbage
Let’s clear this up:
- “Just rehearse more!” - Helpful as the base, but irrelevant if the issue is emotional, not informational
- “Picture the audience naked!” - It raises a bunch of questions, from hygiene to why!?
- “Fake it till you make it!” - Why fake it, when your truth is what we came for?
- “Smile more!” - This is what landed us here in the first place. Pretending that all is fine when it isn’t.
You don’t need a trick.
You need a track-switch.
From survival…
to owning it.
❖ The Brink Method: Real, Rooted, Unforgettable
When we work together, we don’t slap on a TEDx-style template.
We meet the part of you that froze
and we bring her home.
We move through the trauma response that’s masquerading as “professionalism.”
We teach your nervous system how to hold visibility, pressure, and pleasure.
Because yes stage presence can be pleasurable.
There’s an art to it.
There’s a freedom in it.
There’s a human in it who’s done hiding.
And they are the leader they came for.
Impact lives here.
Working with me is not just about becoming competent and confident
it’s about liberating into becoming unforgettably impactful.
❖ That Moment Most People Never Reach
There’s a point when you stop managing the audience and start moving them.
When your heart leads your mind
and your body says: we’re safe now. Speak.
That’s when the magic happens.
And that’s what we train.
Not just slick performance or poise.
Presence. Power. Permission.
This is why my clients are told they were “the best speaker at the event.”
✨ Final Word
Stage fright isn’t the problem.
It’s the threshold.
To your power.
To your presence.
To a leadership that doesn’t just look confident
but feels like truth in motion.
This is where your voice becomes resonance.
Your presence becomes leadership.
And your stage time becomes legacy.
