Fight. Flight. Freeze.

Fight. Flight. Freeze.

Jul 28, 2023

We know that the Fight-Flight-Freeze response occurs in stressful situations.
Have you ever wondered what this means for you in public speaking?

FIGHT 👊
Here is how this translates to you on stage or screen:
If you've ever been told your voice sounds monotone;
You found it hard to stay melodious, and you listened back to yourself to hear a more angry/annoyed version of you or;
You wonder why you're so loud even when it wasn't needed.

Well, that's the FIGHT response manifesting through your voice.

FLIGHT ✈️
Maybe you sit at the opposite end and get a dry throat; somehow, it's all getting tight in there. Have you noticed you speed up? When you listen back, you'll think - "Gosh, why am I rushing like this?" In FLIGHT response, you want to run away, so your voice does!

FREEZE ❄️
When we freeze on stage, we experience a Loss of words. Or the brain goes all blank. Maybe you have forgotten what you want to say and what it's all about when in the spotlight. If so, congratulations, you are officially a human in FREEZE response.

How do we navigate this? 🗺️
Nervous system activation is the culprit of these symptoms; then, nervous system regulation is the anti-venom.

I work with tools, techniques and effective practices to elevate the level of competence for speaking, voice production and expression, which breeds confidence in what you are doing. We also learn to regulate our nervous system actively and expand our capacity to be in a high-intensity situation. In other words, we stretch your range of being 'in green', and in that combination, you will experience more choice, power, impact and enjoyment of shining in the spotlight.
