Are you a colour-by number or blank canvas creative?

Are you a colour-by number or blank canvas creative?

Mar 10, 2023

Humans are inherently creative because we make things exist that weren’t there before.

Creation is to bring into existence.

The most common way to bring something into existence is what I call “analytic creation’.

Analytic creation is the traditional workmanship of generating a concept, a well-formed plan, a strategy then executing on this. Make it happen.

In other words: we make the shapes then colour them out.

Colour-by number creativity.

When it works, it’s repeatable, it’s scalable, it’s transferrable.

Artistic creation is working with a blank canvas. The creative act of allowing inspiration, situation, collaboration to inform the creative process: allowing innovation, original production and artistry to shape the outcome of the product.

There are parameters within which this process takes place.

The product is in line with the original intention and often supersedes expectation,

Craftmanship and skill are the mere foundations. Artistry relies on them to go above and beyond.

Artistic creation takes more risk because it demands your life and soul to be brought to the process. It is a challenging and satisfying process.

Analytic creation is more industrial, scalable, productive at times.

Artistic creation is more wild, unpredictable and takes you on a transformational journey.
